Masonry Contractor in Lucerne Valley - Repairs and Block Walls for Desert Lots
Bedrock Victorville Concrete and Masonry is a masonry contractor based in Victorville that works in Lucerne Valley, repairing cracked block and brick, worn joints and chimneys, and building block walls, walkways and stone work around desert homes.

Lucerne Valley homes, lots and long walls
Lucerne Valley is a longer drive east of Apple Valley than most of our jobs, and the land opens up fast once you're out here. Homes sit on big lots, often well back from the road on a long dirt or gravel drive, with block walls along the property line, a shop or barn out back and room for horses. It reminds me of the open lots we work on in Phelan, and the calls are much the same. Someone has a cracked wall, joints going soft on an older house, a chimney that's taken years of wind, or they want a new wall to finally close in the yard.
Water takes some planning here. Getting water is something the community is still working on, so before we mix mortar or keep new block damp while it cures, we sort out with you where that water comes from. On open desert ground like this, the footing under a wall and the way water drains past it decide how long the work holds up.
What desert ground and weather do to masonry here
Masonry out here takes a beating from sun, wind and the odd hard storm, and the size of the lots shapes how we build. Here's what we watch for on Lucerne Valley properties.
Lucerne Valley sits at the southwestern edge of the Mojave, between 3,000 and 4,000 feet, so fresh mortar dries fast unless we keep it damp.
Long property-line walls need control joints, planned breaks in the wall, so any cracking happens where we want it instead of across the face.
Wind-blown sand wears at soft, older mortar until the joints go hollow, which lets water in and loosens block and brick over time.
Walls on open lots stand alone in the wind with nothing to break it, so height, footing size and the steel inside the block matter more.
Because every lot here is a little different, I come out to see the wall, the ground around it and the way in myself before I write your estimate.
Working in Lucerne Valley and the High Desert
We're based in Victorville and drive out to Lucerne Valley for repairs and new walls, the same as we do in Apple Valley and Barstow. If you're farther out, give us a call and ask.
Masonry services we bring to Lucerne Valley
Foundation repair
When a crack runs through a foundation wall or a corner drops after heavy rain, we find out why it moved before we repair it.
Chimney repair
Wind and sun wear the top of a chimney first, so we fix the cracked cap and loose brick before rain gets down into the flue.
Tuckpointing
On brick house fronts and chimneys with tired, uneven joints, we cut out the old mortar and refill with color-matched mortar so the lines read clean again.
Brick repair
A few cracked or spalled bricks, where the face has popped off, can be cut out and replaced one at a time without rebuilding the whole wall.
Driveway pavers
Pavers make sense when you're done with a dusty dirt driveway, because they flex with the ground and single pieces lift out if a section needs fixing.
Retaining wall construction
On sloped lots and near washes, a retaining wall holds back soil, and we build drainage in behind it so water doesn't push it over.
Masonry restoration
For an older stone or brick wall or house front that's worn but sound, we clean, repoint and repair it so it keeps its original look.
Fireplace installation
When you want a masonry fireplace in a new addition or an older room, we build the firebox, hearth and surround in brick or stone to suit the space.
Stone veneer installation
Stone veneer, thin stone set over a wall, can dress up a plain stucco front or porch columns, and we set it over the right backing so it holds.
Concrete block walls
Big open lots often get a block wall on the property line to cut wind and dust, and we set it on a footing sized for its height.
Foundation block wall installation
For an addition, garage or workshop, we lay the block foundation wall on its footing to the approved plans, so the building above sits level.
Outdoor kitchen masonry
We build the block base for a grill and counter, finished in stone, brick or stucco, so your outdoor kitchen holds up to sun and dust.
Walkway construction
When the path from the driveway to the door is dirt or broken concrete, we lay a walkway in pavers, brick or stone on a packed base.
Brick wall installation
A brick garden or entry wall gives an open lot some shape, and we lay it on a real footing with joints packed tight against blowing sand.
Stone masonry
Stone fits a desert yard well, and we lay it for planters, columns and low walls, fitting each piece so the wall carries its weight evenly.
Brick pointing
When only a few joints in a brick wall have cracked or dropped out, we fill just those with fresh mortar instead of redoing the whole wall.

Choosing us for masonry work in Lucerne Valley
We're a Victorville masonry contractor, fully licensed and insured, with satisfaction guaranteed on every job. Here's how we run the work when we come out to Lucerne Valley.
The fix matches the cause
Patching a crack without finding out why it's there just means another call later. So I look at the footing, the soil and where the water runs before I tell you what the repair should be.
I estimate, our crew builds
Since 2017, I've come out to look at each job and write the estimate myself. Our own crew does the work with me checking it as it goes, and like a good kitchen line, we clean as we go.
Ask anything before you sign
Nobody should sign off on work they don't understand, so ask as many questions as you like, and I'll explain it a second way if the first didn't land. Call (760) 493-2913 to get started.
Lucerne Valley masonry questions we hear
Do I need a permit to build a block wall in Lucerne Valley?
The county's permit list doesn't settle it for every wall, so it's worth asking before anyone digs. The county's Building and Safety office issues permits for listed work like additions, alterations and structural repairs, says other work may still need one, and requires the open space around buildings to be kept either way, and for the desert area you can call them at (760) 995-8140. If it isn't clear for your wall, we check with the building office before we start, and when a permit is needed we handle the application and build to the approved plans.
Does a small shed need a permit in Lucerne Valley?
Under county guidance, a one-story detached shed of 120 square feet or less can go up without a permit if it has no utilities, stands under 14 feet tall and sits within the minimum setbacks. It also has to go with an existing house or main use on a lot with the same owner, and without one it takes a Temporary Use Permit. Anything bigger, taller or wired, plan on a permit.
How do I handle erosion control for a wall or yard project in Lucerne Valley?
Plan for it before the ground is disturbed, because a county residential guide says that, in general, all projects need some type of erosion control before construction or land disturbance. If your job has no grading plans or building permit, the guide says you need a separate erosion control permit first. If it's unclear which applies to yours, we check with the building office before we start.
How much does a block wall or masonry repair cost in Lucerne Valley?
There's no single price, because it comes down to what we're building or fixing, how big it is and what's causing the problem. On a new wall, the length, height, footing and finish move the number most, and on a repair it's whether we're filling joints or rebuilding a section, plus any drainage fix the cause calls for. The schedule mostly turns on whether a permit is needed and the weather, and I'll give you your own figure once I've seen the job.
How much of a down payment can a contractor ask for in California?
No more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the total contract price, whichever is less, and the Contractors State License Board applies that rule to all home improvement projects. Any other payments have to be listed in the contract and tied to work done or materials delivered. The board is the state office that licenses contractors, and county permits can be pulled by you as the owner or by a state-licensed contractor.
What causes block walls to crack or wash out in Lucerne Valley?
Water and movement in the ground under the footing cause most of it, and here the water tends to come all at once. Rain in the area averages under 4 inches a year, but a single storm can drop more than an inch and bring flash flooding, which undercuts footings and pushes on retaining walls. We find where the water runs before we repair a crack, so the fix matches the cause.
